Queen Amanirenas By Steve Paul

Queen Amanirenas was a powerful queen of the ancient Kingdom of Kush, which is now modern-day Sudan. She ruled from around 40 BC to 10 BC and is considered one of the most successful military leaders in Kushite history.

Amanirenas is best known for leading her army against the Roman Empire during their invasion of Nubia, a region that includes parts of modern-day Egypt and Sudan. The Romans had taken control of Egypt and were attempting to expand their empire further south into Nubia. Amanirenas led her troops into battle against them, and although she lost an eye in the process, she ultimately succeeded in driving the Romans out of Nubia. Enjoy!
